Mansfield & Ashfield 2020 together we mean business

Mansfield 2020 Business Focus Group finds out the needs of our local economy!

Our latest BLG business focus group brought together business leaders from across Mansfield and Ashfield to work together to build pride in Mansfield and make a difference to local people.

M2020 formed the working group in 2011 to give the business community the opportunity to meet and voice concerns and discuss how to improve the working conditions in Mansfield. Initial projects included Broadband Connectivity, Education and skills, positive PR for Mansfield.

The results from the 2014 annual M2020 business survey was discussed as findings demonstrated business confidence is up and there is a lot of optimism out there for not just business owners but for Mansfield as a place to do business.

The survey also demonstrated local employers actually recruit for professional staff but have problems recruiting the right person. Other issues discussed included the need for the education system to change its approach and to understand business in order to ensure young people are work ready when leaving the education system.

MDC reported the progress of the ‘Invest in Mansfield and Ashfield project’ that included the announcement to attend the MIPIM UK property trade show. The show will provide the opportunity to showcase our area as a successful business location to a national audience of property professionals.

The education and skills part of the meeting included a progress and impact report on the Career Champion scheme - 2500 young people have now been through the program and over 70 businesses have signed up to the pledge to deliver at least one employability program per academy year.

62% of businesses in the area reported poor broadband, to which M2020 will continue to liaise closely with Notts County Council to find out timescales for each postcode area. To date they have reported a delay in original time schedule.

This is an ongoing challenge that the group continues to challenge to ensure this is not barrier for business growth.

The group has set action points for each item and will meet again on the 2nd September 2014. If you are interested in attending this meeting please email
