Mansfield & Ashfield 2020 together we mean business

2020 Business Liaison Group (BLG) Working on a Strategy to Attract Graduates to aid Business Growth!

Our September BLG group meeting discussed the issue that is a hot subject with business leaders across the country: how do we retain our graduates?

The group agreed there needs to be a strategy to promote the entire business community. Graduates needs to be made aware of the opportunities available locally – otherwise why would they return to the area if they cannot see the potential for their personal growth?

Members within the 2020 group understand one another’s business demands and share success stories. However, the successes of our business community must reach the wider community and other businesses must be encouraged to communicate and market themselves to the local community.

The BLG group are moving this forward with the purpose to impact the community and educate businesses and graduates about the opportunities on our door step thus developing our local economy by retaining essential skills needed for business growth.

Other topics on the agenda included an update on the unique scheme ‘Career Champions’ that was developed last year celebrated a successful first year in operation. 3770 young people have now benefited from the various programs developed to bridge the gap between young people and the business community. This is not happening anywhere else in the UK. The main driver behind the scheme is the Mansfield Learning Partnership (MLP) as a result they are working with the University of Derby to develop an employability framework to be recognised and shared as best practice in Nottinghamshire and beyond.

The group previously expressed concerns over the lack of business influence amongst the board of governors within local schools. M2020 have engaged with an organisation ‘SGOSS’ that manage and match professionals with local schools. They have reported a lack of legal and finance experts along with business connectors and marketing professionals.

M2020 will provide a platform for this message to be communicated at a future breakfast meetings, the website and social media outlets.

The Invest in Mansfield and Ashfield project has now finalised marketing material that includes a brochure and film promoting the benefits of being a business in the area. As part of the project the working groups have produced 10 key messages that captures what the area has to offer. These messages will form a campaign to the wider community to instil a common belief and passion about the area that will follow suit in all media messages and put Mansfield on the map in a positive light. The group will meet again on the 2nd December at Forever Green, Ransom Woods Business Park, Mansfield.
